Still Life

Photographs by Caley Taylor

My still life series of photographs came to light after reading poems by the Canadian poet, Steve McOrmond. McOrmond’s poem, “Pastoral”, explores the everyday experiences as he places his witty twist on words and mixes them with humour.

As I absorbed McOrmond’s sentences about his daily reality (which he made into a vibrant, playful reading experience), I began looking at items in my house differently and more closely.  I challenged myself to transform a mundane pomegranate into a stunning photograph by changing its commonplace background and modifying its dull lighting in hopes of composing a dramatic visual.

When you look at the glossed over, everyday items or experiences and change their situation, sometimes, something magical happens.
